SK-II Facial Treatment Essence: A true magic potion

I don't believe in miracle. But they call this a miracle water. I don't really want to put my trust in it because according to my belief, there's no such thing as miracle. On the other hand, I do believe in effective and powerful skincare product. The SK-II Facial Treatment Essence is undeniable one effective and powerful skincare. Have you heard of it???

Of course you do!!! This product is heavily advertised everywhere, I'm sure you know about it. But have you tried it yet?

It took me so long to try this because a few people in my family suffered severe rashes from using it. But that was years ago. Nonetheless, I was still reluctant to give it a try. And just before Christmas, my bff told me she is using one and there's a significant improvement on her skin. Hearing that, I became more interested. That is why I went to SK-II roadshow to ask for samples but they brushed me off.

After a long thinking, I decided to get their Christmas edition Pitera set which contains 75ml Facial Treatment Essence, 40ml Facial Treatment Clear Lotion and 1 piece of Facial Treatment Mask.

I was so glad SK-II put up this set for their Christmas edition. Not only it is the smallest bottle of the treatment essence (I don't want to buy the bigger size before knowing if it's really suit my skin), it also comes with two extra pieces of free gifts which is the toner and mask. The whole set only cost RM199 which is the original price of the treatment essence. The mask itself cost RM70+. I think the set is definitely a great deal in terms of value.

Let me just talk about the Facial Treatment Essence today. We'll talk about the mask and toner some other day.

The product:
Containing more than 90% pitera, this much loved miracle water is a must-have for healthy, radiant skin. It helps maintain the skin's natural renewal cycle to its optimum condition to allow skin nourishment. It is also works to balance the skin's pH and sebum secretion, so oily and dry areas are properly moisturized.

What is pitera?
It is natural occurring liquid from the yeast fermentation process uses an exclusive yeast while other skincare brands are based on yeast from beer. The seven known benefits from pitera are it helps adjust skin's rhythm, replenishes and retains moisture, tones the skin texture, adjust the pH level of the skin, controls the generation of dark spots, soothes sunburned skin and helps control the secretion of sebum.

Application:
There are two ways to apply the facial treatment essence. You can use cotton pad/ball or directly apply it to your skin. In the beginning I applied it with cotton pad because I remember the SA at SK-II Pavilion told my friend to do so. She said the skin can absorb the essence better when apply with cotton. However, according to my friend, the Singapore SA told them that the skin absorbs better when you apply directly to your skin. Since there's contradicting advise from SK-II SA's themselves, I guess it is up to you to choose your own way of applying it. You have to apply this after you apply your toner in AM and PM.

Pros:
1. It really does deliver all the promises.
2. Quick result. I witness improvement on my skin within 2 weeks.

Visible improvement after 2 weeks:
1. I have serious pores issue, that's why I can tell that my pores are getting smaller. I never thought any skincare can do that.
2. More firm.
3. Always hydrated.
4. Less appearance of white heads and black heads.
5. Dark pigmentation on my skin is getting lighter.

Cons:
1. Expensive.
2. Bad smell. It smells like rotten sake.

Will I repurchase it?
Yes. I think this bottle is going to finish next month. I'm already planning to buy a bigger bottle.

My two cents:
I've compared with my bff in Singapore that it is much cheaper to buy SK-II in Malaysia. She bought the same thing at SGD99, which is about RM245. In Malaysia, it is sold for RM199 only. And the treatment services here are much cheaper. For Singaporean SK-II users, it is much cheaper for you hop on a bus to JB to get it.

Anyway, if you want it, try to get the Christmas Pitera set if you can. I'm sure it is still available in some SK-II counters. The free mask and toner really make your money worth it. If they run out of the Christmas set, you might only get the facial treatment essence itself for the same price.

Although I love this product, I'm still very doubtful of the "pitera" thing. If SK-II claims that it is natural liquid from fermenting process, how did they trademark the word "pitera"? It's like Spritzer claiming trade use of the name "water" or Chanel claiming trade use of the work "quilted bags". It really doesn't make sense to me. I definitely need more knowledge on what pitera really is. If you happen to know, please educate me. I'm ready to learn. At the mean time, I'll just enjoy the benefits this facial treatment essence giving me.

Since the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence is so popular, do you have a bottle on your dresser? Is it doing any good to your skin?

I heard from my friend that once you started SK-II it's better you don't stop. Hmmm. After 2 years I'm still debating if I should get it lol

@Sabrina: It's the fermentation smell. You'll get used to it. Thankfully it doesn't last long.

@Fiona: Because you won't get used to the previous skin you had. That's why everyone who use this can't stop using it.

@illy: Yeah... I'm already saving money for the second bottle. The price to pay for beautiful skin...

Not because the skin layer is thinner?

@Fiona: Scientifically, skincare won't be able to thin the skin. Only aging and external aggression will cause thinning of skin layer.

I use SK-II but I don't buy it over the counter (except for my first set 2 years ago), online is cheaper. And I have the 330ml Facial Treatment Essence which by the way is not available over the counter. I don't know why they don't have that size.
Anyway, I have oily skin and large pores especially on the nose and cheeks. And after two years of using, it's less oily and the pores are smaller. About the smell, you'll get used to it after some time, but at least it's not as bad as some other unknown brands which I have smell before and much more offending than the SK-II.
