Product Comparison: Kiehl's Eye Cream

1. Abyssine Eye Cream - Anti-wrinkle defense cream with survival molecules and corallina extract
This gentle formula helps reduce the signs of aging by minimizing the appearance of wrinkles in the eye area. Combining Abyssine and Corallina Extract, our formula provides instant moisturization and diminishes the look of fatigue. Tested under ophthalmologist and dermatologist control.

Comment: This eye cream doesn't work on me at all. After two jars, I still can see my fine lines and wrinkles. There's not a slight improvement. So I figure out, it probably works on younger skin. My skin definitely need more boost to absorb all the goodness from this eye cream. I probably won't repurchase this since Kiehl's has other eye cream that works better on me.

2. Cryste Marine Firming Eye Treatment - Firming and rejuvenating cream with algae extracts
Made with Criste Marine, an unusual botanical found aside the Mediterranean Sea, as well as Padina Pavonica, this cream improves firmness and elasticity helps minimize under-eye dark circles while refreshing and hydrating skin. Tested under Ophthalmologist and Dermatologist control.

Comment: This is my top favorite. Although it doesn't eliminate my dark circles in anyway, but it lifts up my eyes like botox! My eyelids droop because of sagging, my eyelid became hooded and it irritates me when my eyeliner stain on the crease area. When I put this eye cream on, all that problem just go away and I have my original eye shape back again. If you see any sign of sagging on your eyes area, I totally recommend this. Because this eye cream function is to improve elasticity of the skin around the eye area, it actually helps reducing appearance of fine lines indirectly.

3. Creamy Eye Treatment - with Avocado
This creamy preparation with Avocado Oil, gently moisturizes the delicate eye area. Our unique, concentrated texture does not migrate into your eyes. Tested under Ophthalmologist and Dermatologist control.

Comment: This is a very basic eye cream which does not target any skin concern for the eyes except providing moisture. Although it sounds like what other eye cream can pretty much provide for, do not underestimate the power of this eye cream. It is an amazing eye cream for the day if you are going to put on your eye makeup. It provides long hour hydration and keeps your eye fresh throughout the day. If you're working on the computer for long hours, just dab this on and you can feel how it helps sooth the eyes.

Majolica Majorca The Little Humming Book III & Lash Expander Edge Meister Mascara

Today I'm going to review two exciting stuff - first, it is the  Majolica Majorca 10th anniversary palette series The Little Humming Book III and the famous Lash Expander Edge Meister Mascara which has been raved by a lot of beauty gurus.

Let's go through the palette first because that is the one that excites me most. The palette holds 2 eyeshadows, one eyeshadow base and a lip gloss. The packaging is really adorable. It has Alice in Wonderland kind of theme. As you flip through the book, you'll find a lot of Alice in Wonderland stuff in it. Before you get into the products, there are a few pages of a short musical scores...

And lastly...... there's a transparent film that shows the name of the shades:

Eye shadow Antique Berry - a crimson pink in shimmer with micro pink glitters in it
Eye shadow Brick Wall - a true gold shimmer with micro gold glitters (this is my favorite)
Eye Cream Base Table Napkin - a muted pink with pearl finish and cream texture
Lip Gloss Tomato Jam - Orange base true red with really fine micro glitters, finish off sheer

Below are the swatches:

Table napkin, Antique Berry, Brick Wall, Tomato Jam

Let me show you a step by step on how to use this palette.

First, apply Table Napkin as eye shadow base on the eyelid to enhance the eye shadow and also to avoid creasing.

Then, apply the Brick Wall on the inner corner of your eyes by dabbing the eye shadow with a flat brush.

Use a blending brush to pick up the Antique Berry and blend it on the outer corner of your eyelid.

Line your eyes with liquid eyeliner or pencil liner, whichever you prefer...

Then it is time for mascara. I will be using the Lash Expander Edge Meister Mascara (what a mouthful of words). The mascara has a very unique wand. It is shaped like a double edge comb.

There are so many things I love about this mascara that I don't know where to start. I think the best feature it has is the non-clumpy formula. Just when you thought it is going to clump, brush your lashes again with the wand and it separates the lashes instantly. It has fiber formula that can be easily removed by warm water when you're washing the face, there's no need to remove with eye makeup remover. Although it can be removed by water, it is waterproof at the same time. I couldn't understand the science behind it, but it is what it is.... The comb wand makes the application so easy and don't create a mess. It is perfect for bottom lashes.

Let's coat the mascara on my lashes...

Here's the final look with the Tomato Jam Lip Gloss....

My comment on this palette:

1. This is a perfect palette for a girlie makeup look. However, it is probably not an everyday makeup palette.
2. The packaging is perfect for Christmas or birthday gift. It is extremely adorable.
3. I think I can do without the lip gloss. I prefer if they substitute it with another blending color for the eye shadow such as brown or highlight color like shimmery white.
4. In terms of pigmentation, it doesn't look any good when I swatched it. However, I use the eyeshadow on top of the base, it surprised me. The color pay off was super good!
5. The mascara is definitely worth the hype. It is something which I would recommend you to get.

The Little Humming Book III is a limited edition palette. You can get it from Majolica Majorca stands in Sasa, Watson or Guardian. Meanwhile, if you're a WonderBox member, you can redeem the set of palette and the mascara with your WonderPoints or purchase it at only RM59.90. What a bargain!

Just log in to your WonderBox account, then click on WonderShop:

And then look for the Majolica Majorca redemption, like this:

I honestly love the cute packaging a lot. However, I foresee that the only thing that I will use most is the gold eye shadow and the eye cream base. What do you think about the palette. Do leave your say in the comment.

Mwahhh!!!

Monday Mani: Nail it! with Bloop plus a little twist

First of all, I would like to apologize for the quality of the photos in this post. I didn't realized how bad it was until I've finished my manicure, and then I can't go back to do another because I only have 1 set of the nail strips.

Anyway, this is my second time trying nail strips. It wasn't a pleasant experience the first time I was trying it because I bought those RM5 from Daiso and it was a disaster. Since then I avoided nail strips until today, I am trying out nail it! with bloop that comes in this month's WonderBox. To my surprise, this one is so easy to apply. I added some twist in the end, so read on...

First these are all you need - nail strips, top coat and a nail file:

I didn't know my nail strips are transparent. So I needed a base color to go with the nail strips. The first step, I painted a pure white base so that the designs from the nail strips can stand out. If you receive the same transparent nail strips, go on and choose your favorite base color. You can even do different colors for 5 of your fingers.

Step 2, place the rounded edge of the nail strip on to your cuticle. Make sure you choose the correct size for different nails. The way they align the sizes of the nail strips is self-explanatory. If you have really small nail, just trim out the extras.

Step 3, file off the extras with a nail file. I'm pretty sure you know how to do that. You'll get a perfect designed nail art in just a second. This is the result:

The last step is to apply top coat and let it dry. Make sure you seal the edge of your nails with the top coat for a long lasting manicure.

Like I said earlier I did a little twist with this nail strips. The twist is really simple. All I did was cut out design that I want and paste it onto the nails.

If you're too lazy to cut the shape out, you can place the straight edge of the nail strip on half of your nail and then file it, like this...

Instead of having all my nails wrapped in the same nail strips, I this is what I have...

If you cut out half of those nail strips, you can keep the rest for another usage. You can get the bloop nail strips from any bloop counter or Watson's at RM12.90 (if I'm not mistaken).

Hope you enjoyed this week's Monday Mani. So sorry again for the quality of the photos. If I purchase the nail strips, I will do another step-by-step post. Have a great week ahead.

Halloween Makeup Tips, Without Buying New Products

Halloween is the best time of the year for makeup junkies to go all out, doing any kind of makeup which you can't normally wear. While other beauty bloggers trying to recommend to you what product to buy, I am trying to encourage you NOT TO BUY new products (makeup brands going to hate me for this). I've checked, a bottle of face paint can cost up to RM60 per color. Is it worth it to spend the money for just a few hours event?

Tips #1 - You don't need white face paint
Use foundation which is three shades lighter than your skin tone to get that pale-ghost effect. Borrow it from your fair skin friend. Alternatively, use any foundation/BB cream/CC cream/face primer, then dust a matte white eyeshadow on top. It will give you a pale skin.

Tips #2 - You don't need a black face paint
Gel liner solves everything. Unless you're painting the entire face black, then go for a black face paint. Even that, you can put on your normal foundation, and set it with black eyeshadow. That will create a "black face". Ultimately, you can use gel liner to draw the outline.

Tips #3 - You don't need scar wax
Use eyelash glue to create texture scar. Layer it until you get that desired scar. UHU glue works too!

Tips #4 - You don't need fake blood.
A bottle of fake blood cost about RM50. Why pay when you can create it out of lipstick and baby oil. Cut a little bit of your red lipstick for the pigment, dilute it with baby oil. Keep adding the lipstick or baby oil until you get the texture that you want. To create splatter effect, use old tooth brush by rubbing the bristles.

Last weekend, my housemate and I did a little project for Halloween. It was really impromptu decision. I was already going to take my afternoon nap when she suggested we play with our makeups. We use whatever products we have. This is the result.....

Christine is the daughter ghost and I'm mother ghost. To see her makeup upclose, go to her blog Little Blue Haven. And here's mine, with special editing...

The main products that I use for this look are:

Inglot eyeshadow - gray 348, dark brown 329, black 63 and white 373(for the eyes and contouring)
NYX pencil liner
MAC Blacktrack gel liner
NYX red lipstick in Chaos (for the blood)
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk (for white hair)

What are you going to dress up for Halloween?

Using skin whitening products? Read this!

TOKYO: More than 15,000 people in Japan has been left with skin blotches caused by a chemical in popular skin-whitening creams, the maker of the product said yesterday.

Japanese cosmetics giant Kanebo said it had received 15,192 complaints in Japan from users of 54 products containing the whitening chemical "Rhododenol", in what has become an escalating public relations nightmare for the company.

A third of the complaints are from people with "serious" symptoms such as at least three blotches or a single patch  of discolouration 5cm or more in diameter, the company said in a press release.

More than 70 people abroad had reported a similar reaction, 54 of them in Taiwan and the others in Hong Kong, South Korea and Thailand, a Kanebo spokesman said.

"The number may rise somewhat hereafter but the pace is slowing down. We hope there will be no large increase," she said.

Kanebo in July recalled millions of products from across the globe, including Britain, because of problems with a chemical whitening substance called 4- (4-hydroxyphenyl)-2butanone, which Kanebo has named "Rhododenol".

The company has said it will pay medical costs for customers left with uneven skin colouring, which in some cases continued after they stopped using the products.

Moral of the story above is to avoid using skin whitening product which contains 4- (4-hydroxyphenyl)-2butanone.
