Kuala Lumpur, February 18th, 2014; ZALORA, Asia’s leading online fashion destination, has expanded its assortment with the addition of international fashion brands Mango, Aldo, American Apparel and  New Look. ZALORA, which offers the biggest range of fashion and beauty brands of any e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia, will strengthen its already broad offering with the addition of the new brands.

Essentially bringing the best of the fashion high-street online, ZALORA will make it easier than ever to access these popular and well-loved brands with 1 - 3 day delivery time, free and easy returns within 30 days, and multiple payment methods including cash on delivery.

Mango, who recently named supermodel Daria Werbowy the face of their new campaigns, will lead the pack of new brands. ZALORA’s Director of Buying, Phil Rowbottom said, “We are delighted to be adding Mango to the line-up of brands available on ZALORA. We were spoiled for choice when it came to curating a selection from the Spring Summer 2014 line. Our customers can expect to see an on-trend minimalist theme throughout the collection, in a very simple colour palette of grey, black, white, and touches of fuchsia.”

Rowbottom added, “Aldo will have their own shop-in-shop on ZALORA with a specialised selection of on-trend fashion footwear and accessories. New Look will bring their stylish and affordable take on key catwalk and celebrity-driven trends and American Apparel’s much-loved range of sweatshop-free basics for men and women will complete this round of new brands, with lots more coming soon.”

Harry Markl, Managing Director, ZALORA said “This is a new season for ZALORA. With our massive reach of 15 million visits per month, we have clearly positioned ourselves as the leading online fashion destination in Asia and major international brands are increasingly excited to partner with us.

“At the end of the day it is the consumer that decides where they want to shop for fashion and ZALORA is offering an additional choice. Given our impressive reach, we want to work together with our brand partners to further strengthen their brand equity and awareness in a still under-penetrated market like Southeast Asia. In general we believe, it is important that online and offline go hand-in-hand to offer excellent customer experience in Asian fashion retail.”

RIVER ISLAND, the popular British brand which was welcomed back to Asia via  ZALORA in September 2012, will also be launching their Spring Summer 2014 collection this month. The collection centers around a California beach theme, bringing super-bright tropical accents, candy colours and clashing prints evoking a distinctly ‘90s feel.

Block the Sun with Yadah Oh My Sun Block

Before getting into the product review, I want to share info on UV rays and SPF with you. I know all of us heard of both the terms time and time again. But do you actually take time to understand what the terms means

Understanding UV rays
Ultraviolet rays (better known as UV rays) from the sun contains two types of rays – UVA and UVB. UVA is the longer wave and commonly known to cause skin aging and wrinkles. UVA can penetrate into the dermis of our skin, which is the second layer of the skin. Meanwhile, UVB is the shorter wave that causes skin redness, sunburns, cataract and immune system damage. It only penetrates up to epidermis, which is the first layer of our skin. UV rays can begin to harm your skin within only 15 minutes of being outside, even on cloudy and cool days. UV rays exist even at night. This is why we need to protect our skin from the damage of UV rays with SPF.

Understanding SPF
The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) displayed on the sunscreen label ranges from 2 to as high as 50 and refers to the product’s ability to screen or block out the sun’s harmful rays. For example, if you use a sunscreen with an SPF 15, you can be in the sun 15 times longer than you can without sunscreen before burning. Consumers need to be aware that SPF protection does not increase proportionally with an increased SPF number. While an SPF of 2 will absorb 50% of UV radiation, an SPF of 15 absorbs 93% and an SPF 34 absorbs 97%. Dermatologists recommend using a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 which blocks 97% of the sun’s ray. Higher number SPFs block slightly more of the sun’s rays but no sunscreen can block 100% of the sun’s ray.

Today I have a sunblock to recommend to you. I have been using this for the past 2 weeks, so far so good. It is the YADAH Oh My Sun Block. I love the quirky name! And I love the smell and functions even more.

What it is
Contains SPF35 with PA++. A daily-wear colourless and highly moisturizing sun block that offers high-level protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays suitable for all skin types even for the most sensitive skin. Exceptionally lightweight texture in a matte finish. No makeup remover is needed.

How to apply:
Apply 15 minutes before heading out. Give your skin time to absorb the sunscreen. Reapply every two hours outdoor, as sunscreen tends to be broken down over time by the sun, and rubbed or washed off with sweating and water exposure. It is safe to apply under makeup. To apply under the makeup, apply the sunscreen first. Leave it for 5 minutes before putting on your foundation/powder. Prior to that, take a piece of tissue to blot out excessive oil.

Pros:
1. Slows down and temporarily prevent the development of wrinkles and sagging skin resulted from sun exposure.
2. Contains adequate UV protection for 3 hours outside.
3. When photographed, it doesn’t create the white-ghost look on the face like other sunblock.
4. The texture is non-greasy, matte and weightless make it perfect to be worn underneath makeup during the day.
5. Provides hydration throughout the day.

Cons:
1. Like other sunblock, it needs to be reapplied after few hours under the sun.

Available at all Sasa Outlets. RM49.

Ingredients:

[Makeup Basics] What You Need to Know Before Starting to Indulge in Makeups

Few months ago, I followed a friend to a cosmetic shop (not going to name it. She's a makeup virgin, probably own a few lipsticks and mascaras, and that's all. She never truly understand cosmetics and since she will be starting to work in a MNC soon, she thought of putting a presentable face when going to work. To my horror, the sales girl recommended my friend various products that she don't need such a stick blusher that comes with a highlighter. As a frequent makeup user, I know the product is not going to be user friendly and probably will spoil her entire experience with makeups.

After the event, it dawn to me that one of the biggest factor why Malaysian girls don't consume makeup as much as Taiwan, HK and Singapore girls is because we have lack of product education. When a makeup virgin wants to start exploring makeup, normally the first place they will go to is makeup counter that parks some of their promoters there. They are full of hope... Hoping that the promoters will help them find suitable products. But it turns out, the promoter are just a bunch of sales hunger people. As soon as they know you are willing to part your money for some new products, they will recommend you anything and everything. As long as they get their paycheck at the end of the month, whether you will need the products or not, that is the least of their concern.

This should not happen. Malaysian girls deserve better education on makeups to help them understand what they need and what they don't need. Therefore, I will be dedicating some of my time in this blog to teach those of you who are makeup virgins on how to shop, where to shop, and how to apply your makeups.

I have a line of topics which I intend to post up every week:

1. Basic products that you should start with
2. How to choose your foundation (finding your skin tone, which formula you should go for, what type of application suits you)
3. Which products you should spend more money on, which products you should stick to drugstore

I hope these posts will help some of you in getting to know more about makeups.

1 Second Nail Art with Bloop Nail It!

Remember that time when I featured the Bloop Nail It! nail strips? I can't stress how convenient it is to have pretty nails with the nail strips. When my bff & I going for a cruise, the last thing I want to worry about is my nails, but at the same time I also want a pretty nail art to go with my outfit.

I also received the toe strip, I haven't use it yet. But it's the same thing and same procedure to apply, except the shape is cut into toe nail sizes.

I will go through with you the process again. These are the stuff you need. The nail strips, small scissors, nail file (comes in the pack), top coat. You might also need a base color nail polish if you have transparent nail strip.

Start with fresh clean nails. Remove any nail polish residue. My nails get so yellow because there's never a day I live without nail polish..

If there's any transparent nail strip, paint your desired base color on your nails. Leave it to dry for about 30 minutes. Make sure your nail polish is completely dry or your nail strips will be ruined.

Cut out the nail strips into pieces. This will make your life a lot easier. Then measure the nail strips on your nails. If you have tiny nails, cut off the extra on the side.

Stick the nail strip on to your nails. And file out the extra with the nail file.

And that's it! It's already done. Apply to all your nails and then secure it with top coat.

So sorry for the bad photos again. It is so hard to take nice photo right after you did your nails with no help. But check out Alie's nail strip. She has a nicer one...

You can purchase Bloop Nail It! from Bloop stores, Watson, and more conveniently on HiShop. HiShop is selling 3 packs for only RM38!

Fashion Culture Box - Malaysia's First Fashion Box

Hi girls,

Want to know the reason behind my absence in blogging? I've dedicated all my time to help my friend to start Malaysia's first beauty box! It is called Fashion Culture Box. Akin to Wantable from US and Her Fashion Box from Australia, Fashion Culture Box's aim is to bring you the latest fashion - whether on print, online or in the form of tangible product.

We have sent out our very first box. This is just a pilot box, it is not available for public to purchase. We only have 2 themes for the recipients to choose - Queen of Hearts and Queen of the Fairies. Want to see what's inside?

These are the stuff you can expect from Fashion Culture Box. You will receive fashion products, accessories, beauty products and a printed copy of FCZine.

For those who choose the Queen of Hearts box, these are the products they will receive. The one I got is actually the spare box, so the content is not as great as the one others got:

1. Timeless Truth Face Mask Snail Extract with Sakura Repairing Mask
2. A copy of FCZine, you can read the online version <<here>>
3. A vintage choker. This is the star item of this box. This choker is 100% handmade.
4. Sun & Moondust Duo Bangle. It is a pair of silver and gold bangle.
5. Midnight Rendezvous Earring. This is my favorite because this earring is inspired by Dolce & Gabbana Autumn/Winter 2013 collection
6. Bloop nail polish. Extra glossy, fast drying and non-clumpy. Bloop is currently my favorite mid-range nail polish.
7. A vintage ring

And here is the content of Queen of the Fairies:

Benefit Boi-ing (No.2) Concealer: Good Product, Bad Packaging

What it is:
You name it, boi-ing hides it! This industrial-strength concealer camouflages dark circles, shadows & discoloration for a seamless, natural-looking finish without creasing or fading. It's the concealer that goes the distance.

How to apply:
With fingertip, dab boi-ing on areas you want to conceal. Pat gently to blend. For a smooth glide, rub the concealer between ring finger and thumb to warm up the product.

Pros:
1. Heavy duty product, which can hide almost any skin imperfection.
2. A little product goes a long way, so one jar can last you for a long time.

Cons:
1. The formula is a bit dry. If you have flaky dry skin, application may be patchy.
2. What I hate the most about this product is the packaging. It is in a jar form. You will need to use your finger to get the product out. I find it disgusting when dirt gets transferred into the product easily.

How to apply:
You can use either concealer brush or fingers for application.

Suitable for:
Any skin type, however it might be too dry for dry skin.
