Everything you need to know about STROBING

Step aside contour, and hello strobe! The effect of strobing is the total opposite of contouring. While contouring sets and sunk the face features, strobing construe sharpness of the face features.

Recommended products for strobing:

1. Benefit Watt's Up
2. NARS The Multiple Strobing Stick
3. Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat
4. Benefit high beam and sun beam
5. Bobbi Brown Pink Glow Highlighting Powder
6. M.A.C. Strobe Cream

How to strobe

Examine the feature of your face and determine the area with sharp edges. Under strong light, determine the spot where the light hits, that is where you should strobe. Depending on the product you are using, apply very little amount of product on your face. In this case, a little goes a long way. Do not overdo strobing or you will look like a human disco ball.

The trend

Strobing is more of a trend than a newly discovered makeup skill. The older term used was "highlighting" where frequently use on professional photoshooting. It is the same technique, however now seems popularized by celebrity makeup artists.

Although strobing looks to enhance the features of your face, it may not be suitable for everyone. If you have extreme case of oily skin, avoid strobing your face or suffer from a face that looks like a frying pan.

Makeup Wipes Comparison

Makeup users will always find themselves reaching for makeup wipes for the convenience of removing makeups. I personally find it really useful especially when traveling, going to the gym after work and lazy days. There are many makeup wipes out there and it can be confusing to choose the right one. Here are 5 different brands of makeup wipes that I have on hand and I'm going to give you a summary of each. Then you shall decide which brand that suit your needs.

Simple Kind to Skin Cleansing Wipes
Quantity: 25 sheets
Price: RM17.90 / RM0.716 per sheet
Made in UK

I really love the Simple cleansing wipes. It has no fragrance and suitable for sensitive skin. However, the cleansing power is not strong enough to remove waterproof mascara. I find some stains of mascara and eyeliner on my skin after using it.

Bifesta Water-based Makeup Remover Wipes
Quantity: 46 sheets
Price: RM19.80 / RM0.43 per sheet
Made in Japan

Bifesta is well known for its makeup remover and its makeup wipes are living up to the same standard. I really love the texture of the sheet. It is silky smooth and durable. (Personal experience: I forgot to bring my spectacle cloth during my travel, so I leave a sheet of the Bifesta wipe to dry. Then I use it to wipe my spectacle with it. It amazed me how that one sheet lasted for 7 days without any tearing). It removes waterproof makeup with just one wipe! It has a plastic cover lid which keeps the sheets saturated for a long time.

Biore Makeup Remover Wipes
Quantity: 10 sheets
Price: RM5.92 / RM00.592 per sheet
Made in Japan

Biore is my go-to brand when I have to get makeup wipes during my travel. It comes in different quantities - the 10 sheets pack is the smallest and the biggest pack is refillable. It is probably the cheapest makeup wipes in the market if you get the refillable pack. The quality of Biore wipes is very close to Bifesta. However, the Biore ones leave a stinging sensation on my skin, especially on my acne.

Nivea Exfoliating Wipes
Quantity: 20 pieces
Price: RM18.50 / RM0.945 per sheet
Made in Germany

I was attracted by the promise of exfoliation on the package. After the first use, I don't see the difference of me using other wipes. The sheet comes with bumpy texture which apparently helps remove dried skin. I also find the essence in the pack dries up very fast. And the opening seal did not work that well after a few usage. Also, it has a very strong scent which suggested presence of fragrance.

In conclusion, I do not recommend the Nivea exfoliating wipes. However, Nivea also has other types of makeup wipes which may work better. If I can choose only one wipe from all of the above, I would pick Bifesta. It's good in removing waterproof makeup and the texture of the sheets is so smooth. It is also the cheapest of all the 4 brands.

If you would like me to compare more makeup wipes, do comment below on the brands and name of the makeup wipe(s). Or if you would like me to compare other beauty products, do comment below as well.

Review: Tried & Tested SK-II GenOptics Aura Essence

Previously I've introduced the new SK-II GenOptics whitening skincare on my blog and it became the most-read and most-searched blog post. I figure out that a lot of readers are interested in the GenOptics products, since I have the Aura Essence on hand, I will do a documented test on the product.

Application:
The product is very easy to use. I apply it after the Facial Treatment Essence, or it can be applied after toner as well. It is a product that requires layering (means to be used on a step-by-step skincare regime). The product comes with an automatic pump stopper that provides the accurate dosage for each application. The amount that the pump dispenses is the exact amount your skin needs for optimum result. It can be worn underneath makeup during the day.

Texture:
Unlike other essences that have runny liquid texture, the Aura Essence is thicker. It has a silky and milky texture that able to absorb into the skin quickly. Within seconds, your skin feels matte and hydrated. It leaves a light floral scent on your skin.

Efficacy:
Before trying the product, I went to SK-II counter to do a Magic Ring Skin Test. The test gives you a 360 skin analysis on your skin age, percentage of your skin moisture, prediction of your skin condition in the future, etc. Before I use the Aura Essence, my skin age was 31 (not too bad compared to my real age). And within 2 weeks of using the Aura Essence, my skin age reduced to 30. I'm amazed that this product can show result in just 2 weeks!

Product purpose:
The Aura Essence specifically target to reduce dark spots that caused by UV damage. Although it is a whitening product, it does not bleach your skin or whiten your skin per se. The product works from the inside to reveal your skin's natural radiance. At the same time, it reduces the visible dark spots on the surface of your skin.

Who should use the Aura Essence:
Everyone has different skin concern. Therefore, I urge you to go to SK-II counter to get your skin analyse. Although the Aura Essence is a product that suits every skin type, you should speak to their consultant to see if it is the best product for you. For severe dark spots skin, you may be suitable to use the Spot Essence compared to the Aura Essence.

Where to get it:
The Aura Essence is available at all SK-II counters and Sephora. Price is at RM555 for 30ml or RM790 for 50ml.
