LunaBar Cafe, Penang

When in Penang, I hardly go out but when I do, it has to be a good reason. A friend recommended that we check out LunaBar Cafe - a cafe which inspired by plants. Being plant enthusiasts, my brother and I went to check out the place recently. We weren't disappointed when we were greeted with all these tropical species at the entrance.

The cafe is indeed surrounded by plenty of plants - from little succulents to huge staghorn ferns. There are also different types of plants - air plant, tropical plants and rare species. If you can spot at least 10 plants' ID, you're certified a phytologist. I'm getting there soon. Unfortunately, they don't sell any of the plants.

The menu is pretty basic, you can choose brewed or espresso coffee, chocolate or tea. On the day of my visit, there were two cake options. We picked the two to try.

Blueberry Crumble
Citrus Poppy Seed Cake
Iced Coffee

The cafe has a mellow beat on normal days. But it was a full house when we were there. It's not surprising since it is a good place to hang out with family & friends.

One of the masterpieces in the cafe is the air plant lamb at the first table. The air plant is Xerographica type and it's huge! It must have taken 5 to 7 years to grow it!

The LunaBar Cafe is said to owned by the same owner as Moonshop Gallery which has the same concept. The Moonshop Gallery do sell the plants - especially curated terrariums. Both the establishment are very Instagram-able.

Location: 10D, Jalan Clove Hall, Georgetown, 10050 Penang

It is easy to miss out the cafe as there is no signage and it is settled in a residential home.
