Top 10 Products to try in Sephora

#NotSponsored post.

Speaking on behalf of millions (or billions) of beauty junkies, I would love to thank the brain behind Sephora. It has open up a brand new world for beauty addicts like me. I remember shopping for beauty products was a pain in the ass. Approaching branded beauty counter at the mall (especially Parkson) is like a suicidal mission. The sales person will squeeze every penny from you. And if you don't buy anything, they will look at you with disgust that you wouldn't dare to return to the counter ever again. Back then I was a poor student, wanting to try out the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Lip Balm. The sales person told me I have to purchase it in order to try it, she made fun of me in front of other shoppers that I shouldn't waste her time if I can't afford to buy the lip balm. The experience scarred me until today and I never purchase anything from Elizabeth Arden until today. I'm glad the counter no longer exist today (P/S: It was at Parkson Komtar 15 years back and there was no social media back then to viral my unpleasant experience. I believe I rant it on my Live Journal).

Now, we don't have that experience anymore. At Sephora, we are free to roam around the store, swatching, trying and even applying the products that we want to try with no string attached to purchase anything!

I can say 101 great things about Sephora, but it is still not accessible to a lot of women in the outskirts (waving from Melaka here). The nearest Sephora from my place is about 300km and I only get to visit the store whenever I'm back in my hometown. Since holiday season is near and some of you may drop a visit at Sephora during your holiday in the city. If you are a first-timer or feel intimidated or don't know where to start looking in the store, I hope this post can help you. Trust me, the store is overwhelm with so many products that you might get lost inside.

If you're a Sephora first-timer, I would recommend you to try out these products in no particular order:

Melted Lipstick from Too Faced (RM90)
I fell in love with this lipstick immediately. Although a lot of my friends recommended me to try before this, I just don't know why I took so long to get one. It has the best colour pay-off, stays on for long hours and have the sheer shine that makes your lips look plump. Also, the packaging comes with a doe foot at the end of the tube. You can press the right amount of product you need and apply directly. For those who can't manage the normal lipstick, this is super easy to apply and I definitely recommend this to makeup newbies. Take note that the chocolate range have a slight chocolate scent to it. If you don't like your makeup to be scented, avoid the chocolate range and get other shades. Review coming soon.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (RM99)
If you like matte liquid lipstick type, I would recommend you to go for Kat Von D Everylasting Liquid Lipstick. The long and sleek wand makes it easy to apply. Also, it lasts almost entire day! It doesn't stain the cup, kiss-proof and you won't get your hair stuck on your lips. So far those whom I recommended are extremely satisfied with it. It has wide range of colours including colours that you don't normally see on lipsticks such as black, green, lilac and blue. Review <<here>>.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush (RM122)
If you walk into Sephora looking for only one blush, Tarte Amazonian Clay is the one you should get. You have 15 shades to choose, and I think the most flattering one is Achiote and Blissful. If you have fair skin, go for Natural Beauty and Tipsy. The coral-orange blush in the shade Sensual and Fearless will suit any skin tone. Review coming soon.

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette (RM120)
I always recommend the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette because it is a perfect grab-and-go eyeshadow palette. I have been repurchasing this for 3 times and still loving it. Although there is Naked Basics 2 Palette right now, I find the first version suits Asian skin tone better. It is perfect for every occassion - travel, leaving it in office for emergency touch-up, or for daily wear. The combination of shades can cover all your needs such as highlight colour, transition and shading. I use the shade Faint to top as eyebrow colour, Venus as highlighter and Naked 2 as contour. The large mirror also makes your life easy when applying makeup on-the-go. Do check it out if you have no tried any Urban Decay eyeshadow. I think they make the best eyeshadow. Hands down, no high end brand can top the quality of Urban Decay eyeshadow. Worth every single penny and the value exceeds what you're paying for. Review <<here>>.

Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Foundation (RM225)
It is pricey, I know. But the Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Foundation is definitely one of the best foundation I've ever tried in my life. Get one to try, so that the next time you are buying any liquid foundation, you can benchmark with the quality of this foundation. It feels like your skin and gives a subtle glow that makes your skin look healthy. The coverage is medium, so you won't get that I-am-wearing-tonnes-of-makeup feeling throughout the day. Very light-weight, easy to use and gives great improvement on  the skin. Review <<here>>.

Hourglass Iridescent Strobe Lighting Powder (RM220)
This is another expensive product but I still recommend it because it is by far the best highlighter for me. Unlike other highlighter that gives you that disco ball effect, the Hourglass Iridescent Strobe Lighting Powder gives you a subtle glow but at the same time can be seen through naked eye. It won't give you a bang like you're wearing highlighter, but you can see an obvious different as it brings out the feature of your face, especially in photos. Since it isn't a product that you wear daily, I think it will definitely last a long time. So, do give it a try if you want that celebrity-looking kind of makeup. Review <<here>>.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer
First of all, I must mention that not all Sephora outlets carry Laura Mercier brand. Only certain bigger outlets have Laura Mercier. If you do stumble upon it, try out the Tinted Moisturizer. It has 2 range (normal range & oil-free range) with multiple shades. For those who don't want to wear makeup but still want a glowing skin, this is the product to go for. Forget about BB Cream or CC Cream, the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer will make you come back for more. It is a moisturizer that has a light tint to cover up some light imperfections of the skin. I am a repeated customer for the 4th time now. Although I seldom talk bout this product, but it is one of the product that I wear almost daily - especially during weekend. It has SPF 20, which is not adequate for outdoor wear, but if you're staying indoor, it would be fine. I can't remember the price of it, but I believe it is somewhere around RM120. Benefit They're Real! Mascara (RM115)
Benefit has heaps of great mascaras. The legendary one is the roller lash, but I personally like the They're Real! Mascara. It gives a dramatic effect, especially for those who have sparse eyelashes. If you don't want to splurge so much on a mascara, you can try out the deluxe mini size. Sephora often placed it at the payment counter area. Otherwise, you can get the They're Real! mini kit that comes with other They're Real range products. Review coming soon.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Re(Marc)able Full Cover Concealer (RM130)
If you don't know, the Marc Jacobs Beauty line is exclusively available in Sephora only. The Re(Marc)able Full Cover Concealer really deserve more love than it should. I don't see much hype about this concealer, but it is so far the best I've ever tried. It is creamy and hydrating at the same time. It doesn't creates the cakey look under the eye and around your nose. It blends in really well with the foundation. However, the packaging is not as hygienic because it is a jar and you have to dip your finger in to get the product. Because it is a flat jar, those with longer finger nails might find the product stuck underneath your nails. I would rate this 9/10, with 1 minus point for the packaging. Review <<here>>.

Burberry Kisses Lipstick (RM110)
Every woman needs one trusty lipstick. Even the plainest Jane has a lipstick in her purse. Trust me! I know... If you're that kind of girl (or the girl who has an inventory of lipsticks that lasts 3 generations), you need the Burberry Kisses Lipstick. Don't be mistaken by the Full Kisses Lipstick. That was crap! The names are almost the same don't mix them up. Get the general one, which is Burberry Kisses. It has a lot of shades (I believe 20 variants). My favourite for everyday wear are Tulip Pink and Devon Sunset. For the perfect red, go for Military Red, which suits all skin tone. It has a satin finish and moisturising on the lips. It doesn't leave the dry and itching feeling. Review coming soon.

Those are the 10 top products that I think you should check out the next time you pop into Sephora store. I don't mean you have to purchase them, just swatch it, ask for sample or try it on you at the store would be enough. If you really love it then go ahead and purchase it. I swear you will love it.

If you have any questions, like what's the best eyeliner or the best makeup primer, just drop me a comment. I will drop you 10 shopping tips at Sephora if you're interested. Please let me know if you want the post.

I do not include skincare in my recommendation because skincare is personalized and different skin types have different needs. And I really need to know your overall condition before recommending any product for you. If you want to know my recommendation based on your skin type, do email me at We'll have a chat over the email.
