Mentholatum New Limited Edition Water Lip Tinted Lipbalm

What it is:
Imported directly from Japan, Mentholatum's new limited edition Water Lip Tinted Lipbalm is formulated with super hydrating ingredients that offer only the best for your lipcare needs. Key ingredients used in this lipbalm formulation are 3 types of Hyaluronic Acid (Hyaluronic Acid, Nano Hyaluronic Acid & Super Hyaluronic Acid), Aloe Vera extracts, Collagen and Honey. Put together, these ingredients replenish and retain moisture as well as increase the elasticity of the lips. Additionally, the Honey components also help to form a protective barrier and restore the lip condition.

Upon application, it leaves a layer of "water film" on the lips for long hours of hydration while at the same time treats dry, chapped or cracked lips. The pigmented "water film" also gives the lips a glossy finish for fresh and healthy looking lips.

This limited edition Water Lip Tinted Lipbalm also comes with SPF 20 PA++, which protects lips from the UV rays of the sun. It is available in three tinted colour namelu Milky Pink, Raspberry Red and Rosy Pink.

I don't think it matters much which shade you choose. As you can see from the swatch, I really can't tell which shade is which. I had to swatch it on a piece of white paper to see the difference of the the shades. The tint is not as pigmented as how I wish it could be. Nonetheless, as a lipbalm itself, I think it is the best amongst all those chapsticks you can get in drugstore. It is tasteless and scentless, which is a plus. Totally kiss-proof and long lasting. I think it can easily last about 3 hours if there is no interruption of meals in between. The product texture is very thin, but it feels like it gives the hydration of a thick lip moisturizer, if that makes sense.

If you are looking for a good lipbalm, I will totally recommend you to get this. But if you are looking for a lipbalm with strong pigmentation of tint, you should skip this.

Available exclusively at all Watsons stores in Malaysia. RM13.90 each.

[Weekend Edition] Little Space at Home

From now onwards (in fact for a few months already), I will change my middle name to "thrifty". I will make sure I don't spend more than RM20 for a meal, I won't buy anything else other than food, gas, and really basic necessities. Because.............. I'm saving everything to get a new house!

I had this sudden wakeup call when I have to move out of my rented place because the owner sold the house. The owner of the place is actually a company of three bosses. Technically I have 3 landlords. Some problem happen to the company and now they want to dissolve it and each of them wants to take back their own share. Suddenly I'm the victim here. I've been staying there for the past 2 years and begin to get really comfortable with everything. It sucks having to move because I'm too busy to start all over again.

I'm not too sure which property I want to get. But I've did the calculation. A monthly installment of about RM2k can get me a property worth about RM400k. I'm eyeing on the project behind my office in Damansara because I can just walk to work anytime of the day. Or maybe a project in Subang that is near Empire Gallery. Can you imagine.... All these while the money that I spent on handbags, shoes, clothes, makeups can actually get me a proper house to stay!

From now onwards, most of my weekend post would be on home interior, house decor and home related stuff. Although I haven't find the property yet, I already have the mental image of how the interior of my home is like.

I won't go for anything that looks like an Ikea showroom. And I won't hire interior designer to help me with it. I want it to be something of my own taste. A mismatch of everything with characters. There won't be any specific theme to the design of the interior, but I will have little corners with a certain theme. I hope I make sense.

By the window, I want a small space for an arm chair and coffee table so I can sit there for my reading time. What I have in mind is something like this:

Ideally, I want a similar armchair that Victoria Grayson has in the drama Revenge. It looks like this:

If you happen to know where I can get fabric like that and a customize service for armchair, do let me know.

For the side table, I want a simple round table that is enough for a table lamp, a few stacked books, a small pot of flower arrangement and a candle. The main piece for the table is the stacked books. Not only it is practical (because you can read it), it is also a great idea for display. Do judge a book by its side cover, it can make a pretty decor.

I will call it my relax corner, where I can spend an hour every night to unwind. I get so excited when I'm blogging this because in my mind, I can see it happening.

Well, to help me achieve this little dream of mine, please support this blog by visiting more often, sharing my posts if you think it is useful for others, support my ads and also support Fashion Culture Box. I will think of something to repay you all. A house warming party, perhaps?

M.A.C. A Fantasy of Flowers Collection Spring 2014 Product Photos & Swatches

A glorious garden of irresistible shades unfolds, its hidden pleasures unearthed as delicate pastel Pigments unfurl and the dewy sparkle of Cremesheen Glass casts a luminous gleam. Rose-colored hues from lustrous Lipstick, while a heavenly hybrid of Mineralized Eye Shadows blossoms with natural splendour. Cheeks are kissed with the graceful glow of Mineralized Blush, and vivid pops of colour flourish as Fluidline and Nail Lacquer bring this flowery fantasia to life.

Are you the type that fall head over heels with colors when it comes to makeup? If yes, the M.A.C. A Fantasy of Flowers Spring 2014 collection will make you feel like kid in a candy store. This collection focus more on bright and vivid color of spring flora. I don't know why I keep calling it "A Flight of Fantasy". That's Disneyland parade! Nonetheless, the makeup collection gives the same amount of excitement as Disneyland parade.

It is a complete collection with two range - the red range has warmer tone and the green range has cooler tone.

The lipsticks from this collection are to die for. I do see the resemblance of flower petals from all the colors.

Fleur D'Coral - Pale creamy peach. Suitable for extremely fair skintone and darker skintone. With lustre finish.
Naked Bud - A neutral sheer nude. Suitable for all skintone. With lustre finish.
Dreaming of Dahlia - A sheer red-coral. With lustre finish. My most favorite shade.
Rose Lily - A sheer pink pastel. With lustre finish.
Snapdragon - A mid-tone blue pink. Almost like Barbie doll pink. With lustre finish.
Heavenly Hybrid - A mid-tone berry. With lustre finish.

Price: RM68

The Cremesheen Glass collection range from super sheer to medium opacity. Some has fleck of glitters in it. The colors for this collection are super attractive.

Galaxy Rose - A mid-tone violet pink. Vivid color, almost like plum. Opacity is medium.
Playful Petal - Electric magenta. With micro glitters in it. A super pretty shade.
Pagoda - Frosted cool pink. This shade can't be worn by itself. It will make you look really pale. However, you can apply it on top of a bright lipstick to create unique lip color.
Star Quality - Bright orange-coral. I foresee this can be a best seller. A safe shade for everyday wear, and my favorite out of the lot.
Nectar Sweet - Soft pink-peach. A very sheer opacity with some micro glitters.
Flare of Fantasy - Mid-tone pink-beige. Has micro glitters in it.

Price: RM80

There are 4 sets quad eyeshadows in the collection. Each shade of the quad are thoughtfully put together so it can be worn just by itself. There's a bright shade for highlighting, dark shade for crease, a feature color and a shade for blending. Every quad can be used by itself, will be very convenient for traveling.

Price: RM85

Pink Sensibility

Great Beyond

In The Meadow

 Golden Hour

If you're into bright vivid color, the pigment would be better choice than the eyeshadow. There are 4 colors of pigment for this collection:

Lily-White - Pale butter-yellow shimmer
Chartreuse Bouquet - Shimmering acid green
Violet - Vivid bright violet purple
Pink Pearl - Shimmery lavender-pink

Price: RM85

Fluid line is colored liner that comes in a pot. Technically you can use it as eyeliner, eyeshadow base or as lid color by itself.

Price: RM75

Most of the time I don't understand why there are items such as mascara and brush in a makeup collection. To me, mascara and brushes are staple and it should belong to the permanent collection. I guess they are just putting in for the sake of completing the entire collection so it covers every single product range.

Haute & Naughty Lash - in black. Price: RM93
286 Duo Fibre Tapered Blending - Price: RM180
159 Duo Fibre Blush - Price: RM135
187 Duo Fibre Face - RM138

A lot of people don't know how to use Mineralize Skinfinish. It is actually a versatile baked powder and can be used as anything - it depends on which color of mineralize skinfinish you get, you can powder on top of your foundation to set it, as blush, as highlighter, as contour or as a bronzer.

Price: RM120

There are two blush from this collection. They are:

Azalea in the Afternoon - mid-tone blue pink. A powdery pink color.
Petal Power - Coral pink with gold shimmer (This reminds me of NARS Org. I will do a product comparison post on that soon).

Price: RM100

There are 4 nail lacquer for this collection - 2 cream color and 2 shimmer. All of it has pretty fair drying time.

Soirée - Sparkly light bronze gold. This is amazing one coater polish.
Girl Trouble - Super glitter pink. In a certain angle, it looks purplish.
Pep Pep Pep - A light peach nude. The formula for this is a bit streaky, but can be even out with 3 coats
Saint Germain - Light cool pink. I love this! It is a plastic pink color. A perfect color for nail art, or even to wear it on its own.

Price: RM48

Last night I was at the launch of A Fantasy of Flowers Collection at Queensbay Mall (Penang). The show was brilliant. There was a mini party, surrounded by all the colorful makeups. I almost get high from playing with all the products.

Opening of the launch

Haritha Shan demonstrating the products from A Fantasy of Flowers Collection

MAC Store at Queensbay Mall

What do you think about A Fantasy of Flowers collection? Is there any item that caught your eye? If you're interested in any of the product, you can check it out at any MAC store. Go and play with it, swatch it and see if it is good for you. I feel like getting the Naked Bud & Dreaming Dahlia lipstick and the Golden Hour quad. Should I?

Of all the makeup brands, I think MAC does a brilliant job featuring each of their collection. I always check out their new collection online before it is even launched. The next collections that I am looking forward to are Proenza Schouler (my favorite designer!) and Maleficient (the nail lacquers are to die for!).

[Makeup Basics] Advice from the Pro: M.A.C. Senior Makeup Artist Haritha Shan

Makeup Basics is a weekly topic on this blog. The topic's aim is to help makeup rookie on how to get started. If you're interested in this topic, make sure to come back every week. There will be tips and product recommendations. If you have any useful tips and comment to share, don't forget to comment below.

This week's Makeup Basic topic will be a bit different from usual. Instead of me babbling to you based on my subpar knowledge on makeup, we have MAC Senior Makeup Artist Haritha Shan to give us some tips.

Q: What are the basic products to have for a makeup starter?
A: Compact powder, mascara, eyeliner, blush and lipstick or lipgloss. It is good to start with compact powder because the formula already has foundation in it. Mascara is a must. If you're not comfortable with the intense color of lipstick, you can start exploring lipgloss first because the color is rather sheer. It is not advisable for you to start purchasing eyeshadow because it requires some technique to put on. You might ended up not using it and putting it aside.

Q: How do we follow makeup trend?
A: Pay attention to the latest color, texture and technique in makeup. You don't have to necessarily follow 100%. Just follow part of it will do. For example, bridal makeup has always perceived to be using neutral tone. We are seeing more brides wearing pastel color such as lilac on the eyeshadow (Pantone color of 2014 is called Radiant Orchid, which is a lilac tone).

I admit that as a layperson, I don't know what makeup artist do besides painting on faces. I did asked Haritha some questions on her career as a makeup artist and what are her advice for some of you who aspire to be like her.

Haritha Shan
Q: What do makeup artists do beyond makeup for client?
A: Being a makeup artist, it is a constant learning process. We have to different trend, learn new techniques and apply it to everyday wear. We have to work 7 days a week and it is not as easy as how some people thought it would be. On Monday to Friday, we'll be in the store giving advice to customers and consult them on the right product. On the weekend, we accept freelance job. Normally the freelance job are booked months ahead.

Q: What are the career prospect for makeup artists?
A: Within M.A.C. the job prospect for a makeup artist is endless. We are being coached on various grounds and when our skills developed, that's when we will be channeled to the department which is more suitable for us to grow. For example, for someone who are stronger in the creative side, he or she will be promoted as senior makeup artist, or art director. For those who are show more strength in business, he or she will be promoted as retail manager and so on. The process don't just end there. You start to level up within the country, and then region level, and then into international level. I'm sure it is the process is the same with other prestige makeup brands.

Q: How do a makeup get noticed?
A: Social media helps a lot. Each time you finish a job, take photo of it and post up on Facebook, Instagram, etc. Other people will be able to see what you are capable of doing. Treat the social media platform as your portfolio. Word of mouth is also a powerful tool. A happy client, might refer 10 clients to you. And then the 10 clients will refer another 10 more people each. So you have to build a relationship with your client and most importantly make sure they are happy with your service.

I hope this short interview is useful for you girls. I really enjoyed the evening at the launch of M.A.C. new collection A Fantasy of Flowers with Haritha. Watch out for my next post. I will be showing you girl the entire collection of Fantasy of Flowers together with swatches and the product photos. I'm sure you all will fall in love with the collection if you love spring color.

[Review] Yadah Pore Refining Skincare Set Exclusive at Hermo

Pore facts:
1. Everyone has pore. It is part of our skin anatomy. It's just that some people have more prominent pores.
2. Enlarged pores caused by several factors, most common ones are (1) skin sagging from dehydration, (2) accumulated sebum stretches the pore size.

The bad news is, once you have enlarged pore problem, there's no turning back. You cannot shrink the pore size because there is no muscle around the pore to contract the size. But the good news is, you can make your pores less visible with Yadah Pore Refining Skincare line. This skincare series is made especially to help those with enlarged pores problem.

YADAH's pore care system starts with fresh mineral water and vitamin-rich sacred lotus flower extract. With intensive pore tightening and effective sebum control, this formula will revitalize your skin elasticity. We have minimized using chemicals to create naturally pure and healthy skin.

Pore Refining Foam Cleanser

The foam cleanser is the first step to help unclog your pores. It will remove all the impurities and sebum from your pores. The texture is foamy and rich. Unlike other cleanser for clear pores, the Yadah one isn't drying.

Pore Refining Toner

This is the second step, which is also a very important step to eliminate appearance of pores. For better result, apply it with cotton pad. The fiber from the cotton pad will help further remove remains of the impurities from the pore. The smell of the toner is so refreshing.

What it is:
A highly refreshing toner, enriched with plentiful fresh Mineral water and Nelumbo Nucifera Flower water, helps to astringe pores for elasticity.
Artificial colorant free, Alcohol Denat free, Paraben free, Benzophenone free, Mineral oil free, Benzyl alcohol free, Fragrance free, Triethanolamine free.

Water, Nelumbo Nucifera Flower Water, Butylene Glycol, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Pinus Sylvestris Leaf Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Diospyros Kaki Leaf Extract, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Salix Nigra (Willow) Bark Extract, Imperata Cylindrica Root Extract, Opuntia Ficus-Indica Stem Extract, Adansonia Digitata Seed Extract, Adenium Obesum Leaf Extract, Glycerin, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Pentylene Glycol, Betaine, Trehalose, Octyldideceth-16, Arginine, Sodium Hyaluronate, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol.

Pore Refining Emulsion

Finally the last step to seal the deal. Scientifically, emulsion and moisturizer are the same thing. The only difference is that emulsion has finer particles and it is lighter than moisturizer. Because of its light weight formula, it can be easily absorbed into the skin and the fine particles are able to penetrate into the pores without blocking it. It will refrain sebum from accumulating in your pores.

What it is:
A fresh non-sticky emulsion, enriched with plentiful fresh Mineral water and Nelumbo Necifera Flower water, helps to astringe pores for elasticity.

Artificial colorant free, Alcohol Denat free, Paraben free, Benzophenone free, Mineral oil free, Benzyl alcohol free, Fragrance free, Triethanolamine free.

Water, Nelumbo Nucifera Flower Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Alcohol PEG/PPG-17/6 Copolymer, Pentylene Glycol, Propanediol, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Pinus Sylvestris Leaf Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Salix Nigra (Willow) Bark Extract, Hamamelis Virginia (Witch Hazel) Extract, Diospyros Kaki Leaf Extract, Cereus Grandiflorus (Cactus) Flower Extract, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Arginine, Sodium Polyacrylate, PPG-26-Buteth-26, PVM/MA Copolymer, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Ethylhexylglycerin, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol

Conclusion after a week trial:

I have to be honest that I still find my pores as it is. But the improvement that I can see drastically is that I have no bumps underneath my skin. The congested area at the side of my nose is getting lesser. I think I need to use this a little bit longer to be able to appreciate the product better.

These products work better on the second cause of enlarged pores (which is caused by accumulated sebum). If you have large pores due to skin sagging, you can also use these products, but with enhancement of firming serum before you put on the emulsion.
