Penang Vegan Restaurant: PinXin Vegan Cuisine Review

The first thing I did when I came back to Penang is to look for a nice vegetarian/vegan restaurant. While in Melaka, I have a list of my favourite vegan/vegetarian restaurants, now I have to discover more vegetarian restaurants in Penang as I expand my territory. The first restaurant I've been to is PinXin. This is a vegan restaurant, so it is suitable for vegetarians as well.

Address: 38, Lebuh Tye Sin, 10300, Georgetown, Penang
Business hour: Open daily, 11AM-9PM
Delivery option: Available (GrabFood)
Price range: RM9 - RM15
Halal: Yes

The first thing I noticed when I came to PinXin is the price. I was amazed that the prices on the menu are pretty affordable. It is compatible to the average non-vegetarian restaurant. Usually, vegan restaurants are expensive due to the lengthy preparation and costly ingredients. However, Pin Xin is able to maintain a reasonable price, at the same time use only premium ingredients that are natural and organic.

In most cases, vegan restaurants use mock-meat or artificial meat in their dishes to keep the cost low and also to attract non-vegetarian so they have a bigger customer base. However, Pin Xin doesn’t do that. The hiericium mushrooms (lion’s mane mushroom) became an alternative to the mock-meat in Pinxin's dishes. The mushroom is a healthier option with no preservatives and MSG.

Pin Xin also does local delivery within Penang Island via GrabFood and also they have their own runners. You can order directly at their website https://pinxinvegan.com/pages/food-delivery or through GrabFood. For the full menu, you can browse through their Instagram page

What I love about Pin Xin:

  • The reasonable price is definitely worth to come back for.
  • The interior is very cozy and presentable.
  • They use only premium ingredients in their food.
  • The taste is as good as non-vegetarian food - this is definitely a good place to bring your vegan & non-vegan friends together.

During the MCO period, I got too lazy to cook and ordered my dinner from them. My vegan meal looks so fancy with wine pairing.

I ordered direct from PinXin which subject to their delivery time. If you want a more convenient option, I would suggest you to order via GrabFood.

Recommended dishes:

  • Buddhaful Passion Bowl - I'm biased towards Buddha's Bowl because I'm a fan
  • Penang Asam laksa - tastes exactly like the OG
  • 3 cup tofu & mushroom with rice - this is my ultimate favourite and I don't think I'll get bored eating it everyday
  • PinXin Nasi Lemak - who doesn't love Nasi Lemak right?

So far, my first vegan restaurant on the list did not disappoint me. In fact, I find that it is more creative that the usual vegan restaurants I've been to.

If you go to PinXin, do check out their mini-project of an indoor farm right behind the counter. I was so amazed by it because I've always wanted to have my own vertical farm.
